Global vs. Local Settings

Updated on

Plugin: Bright Dashboard Pro
Category: Configuring Your Dashboards

To save you time, Bright Dashboard Pro uses an inheritance system. You can set your preferences once in the Global tab, and they will automatically apply to both the Client and Admin dashboards unless you choose to override them locally.

How Inheritance Works

Think of Global Settings as your “Default Style Guide.” If you set your Content Alignment to “Center” globally, every dashboard will be centered.

However, if you want your Admin Dashboard to be left-aligned while the Client Dashboard stays centered, you use a Local Override.

Common Inherited Settings

1. Branding

  • Global: Set your agency logo and footer credit once.
  • Local: Use the Branding Overrides in the Client or Admin tabs to show a specific logo for just that view.

2. Layout & Typography

  • Title Position & Alignment: You can set these to “Left,” “Center,” or “Top” globally.
  • Local Overrides: In the specific dashboard tabs, you will find dropdowns for these settings. Choose Inherit to use the global value, or select a specific option to override it.

3. Contact Information

  • The phone, email, hours, and website you set in the Global Settings are used anywhere the “Show Contacts” toggle is enabled.
  • There are currently no local overrides for contact details—your support info is kept consistent across the plugin.

Custom Code Inheritance

  • Global Custom CSS/HTML: Applied to all dashboard pages.
  • Local Custom CSS/HTML: Applied only to the specific dashboard you’re configuring.

TIP: Put your brand colors and core fonts in the Global CSS field. Use the Local CSS fields for tweaks that only make sense in one specific context (e.g., hiding a specific element only on the Client view).
